[1]           THE COURT:  Well, suffice to say that Mr. Tasker has a fairly lengthy record going back to his early youth and, sadly, continuing on to the point where he ends up in the federal penitentiary system.  All of his offences occurred in or around Sarnia, Ontario, so I can assume that that is where he is from and I am taking into consideration that he has acknowledged to be addicted to drugs.  Releasing someone who has no connections in the community to the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver who is acknowledged as a drug addict, seems to me rather foolhardy at best.  I am taking that into consideration.

[2]           I am also considering that he has committed no further offences.  At least he is charged with no further offences during the time he was out of custody, and the effect of his absconding is that he may serve an extra up to a year in jail before he is considered for release again.

[3]           Accordingly, he is sentenced to 60 days to be served concurrently with any other sentence he is serving with my recommendation that he not be released in the future to Vancouver.

[4]           The victim surcharge of $100, he wishes, I take it, to default and serve the one day?

[5]           MR. FUMANO:  Yes, he is going to be in jail for another ‑‑

[6]           THE COURT:  All right, one day, then.  All right.  Thank you.

[7]           MR. FUMANO:  So that is concurrent?

[8]           THE COURT:  Yes.
